16-year-old Chad Finley looks forward to his
return to Berlin Raceway in two divisions to complete the Boyne at
Berlin.
DeWitt, Michigan (Wednesday, October 15, 2008): The 2008
racing season is rapidly coming to a close for most teams in the state
of Michigan. There’s one more event on the schedule and Team Finley
Racing is going out in style by participating in the two marquee races
of the Boyne at Berlin.
The Boyne at Berlin was originally scheduled for September 12-13,
2008 at the unique 7/16s mile progressively banked paved oval of
Berlin Raceway, located a little over an hour West of Team Finley
Racing’s DeWitt, Michigan race shop in Marne, Michigan.
The Friday night portion of the weekend back in September was
completed, but Mother Nature has other ideas for Saturday and forced
the postponement of the second day to Saturday, October 18, 2008.
The 16-year-old made his debut in the CRA Super Series with his ASA
Late Model Series legal Template Bodied / Crate Engine machine and
Qualified an impressive Ninth out of 35 cars on hand!

He’ll start the Boyne Machine 125 from the inside of the fifth row
next to Berlin favorite, Johnny VanDoorn as the 30-car field will see
Jenison, Michigan veteran, Andy Ponstein start on the pole along-side
recently crowned 2008 CRA Super Series Champion, Angola, Indiana
veteran, Scott Hantz.
Before the CRA Super Series Season Championship Feature, Finley
will also be taking part in the Outlaw Bodied Super Late Model portion
of the weekend in the Boyne Machine 100 against some of the top Outlaw
Bodied Super Late Model drivers in the state.
He’ll have his work cut out for him though in the Outlaw Super Late
Models portion of the night as a 23rd place finish in the
Friday night Feature back in September will force the Great Lakes
State teenager to start towards the back in the 100-lap main event.
"We’re really excited to get back to Berlin this weekend and run
both cars," Relayed Team Finley Racing Car Owner, Jeff Finley.
"Looking forward to getting in our last races of the year, we had a
real good car in the CRA part of that weekend in September and our
Outlaw car will be a lot better this time." He added.
Over the weekend of October 11-12, Team Finley Racing, including
driver, Chad Finley went down to Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio to
help out on the pit crew for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran, Kenny
Schrader’s team. In the process, the entire weekend exposed the young
teenager to perhaps his next step up the racing ladder.
"It was really neat to see Kenny (Schrader) and the guys again,"
Smiled Jeff Finley, whose friendship with Schrader goes back to the
days of Finley himself racing regularly in what is now the ARCA RE/MAX
Series. Back when Finley was racing regularly in ARCA, Schrader housed
Finley’s machines during that time.
"Any time we can help Kenny with anything he needs, we’re right
there for him. It’s truly an honor to call him my friend." An
appreciative Finley stated.
Due to his Sprint Cup Series commitments at Lowe’s Motor Speedway
in Charlotte, North Carolina, Schrader would start last in the field
and quickly worked his way through the field and got up to as high as
fifth before the first pit stop of the day.
The Fenton, Missouri veteran worked his way back up to fourth when
contact between Schrader and Bobby Gerhart ended Schrader’s day on Lap
174 of the 200 laps that made up the distance in the Hantz Group 200.
Schrader would be listed 24th in the official results.
"It was awesome to see all my ARCA friends and officials too," The
former winner in the series continued. "They’ve all come a long way.
We also met with lots of folks about running some short track races
next year for Chad. Things look good for us to do that, but it’s still
really early in the talks to be thinking about that next step." He
ended.
During this coming weekend at Berlin, both of Finley’s cars will
have prominent decals from Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper Parts Stores
and Certified Service Centers as well as the AutoParts2020.com colors
in Western Michigan. His CRA car will sport the familiar #42 while the
Outlaw Bodied machine will carry the #29.
