Association To Crown Three Champions This Weekend At Winchester
Salem, IN (October 7, 2008) –
Champion Racing Association will crown three series Champions this
weekend as part of the events with the 37th Annual
Winchester 400 Weekend Presented By Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade
on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway. The Vore’s Welding
and Steel CRA FWD Compact Season Championship 25 lap feature event
will be held as part of the racing program on Friday, October 10th.
The Howe CRA Sportsman Series and CRA Street Stock 50 lap Season
Championship features will both be a part of Saturday’s October 11th’s
racing events leading up to the Winchester 400 for the CRA Super
Series on Sunday, October 12th.

Compacts have the closest points battle
of
any CRA series this season as teammates Bill Charles, who has 885
points to date and Rex Zimmerman, who has 883 points to date, will
battle it out Friday night to see who claims the 2008 Championship in
that CRA division. Brian Redmond is still in the hunt in third place,
he is only 20 points behind Zimmerman. Michael Myers is in fourth
place, he is 84 points behind Redmond. Tim Dilg is in fifth place, he
is four points behind Myers.
Points will be awarded in the 8 lap
heat races and for the 25-lap feature event, all on Friday night. To
date in the nine events held so far in 2008, Zimmerman leads the
series with three feature wins one at Salem Speedway and two at
Winchester. Redmond has two wins, both at Winchester. Dilg also has
two wins, one at Plymouth Speedway, and he won the last series event
on September 1st at Winchester Speedway. Charles won the
season opener at Winchester Speedway and 2007 series Champion Greg De
St. Jean won the series event at Baer Field Speedway this year. In all
the series has already had 52 different teams participate in 2008.
Series rookie driver Tony Dager leads
the Howe CRA Sportsman Series points going into this weekend’s event,
a lead he has held the entire season.
Dager
has 1350 adjusted points to date, each driver is allowed to drop their
two worst point events during the season. Rick Rinehart is in second
place, were he has been all season, with 1291 adjusted points, 59
points out of first. Justin Alsip is in third place with 1281 adjusted
points, he is 69 points out of first place. Charlie Hannah is in
fourth place, he is 65 points behind Alsip. Eric Barcus is in fifth
place, he is 75 points behind Hannah.
Points will be awarded on Saturday
for the Sportsman in qualifying and in their 50-lap Season
Championship feature event. Saturday will be the 16th event
for the series in 2008. Dager started the season off on a role
claiming victories in the first four events, he also scored a victory
at Baer Field in July to give him a series leading five victories so
far in 2008. Justin Alsip has three victories to date, a 100-lap event
at Plymouth Speedway and two at Winchester including the series last
event at Winchester Speedway on Labor Day Weekend. Chad Richardson has
two victories this season, one at Angola Motor Speedway and the
100-lap event at Baer Field Speedway on September 6th.
Steve Minich Jr. has also been to victory lane twice so far this
season, both of those were at Baer Field Speedway. Lou Stemme has one
victory at Plymouth Speedway. Al Cook Jr. has one victory at Baer
Field Speedway. Mark Lambert also has one victory, he got that at the
last series event on September 20th at ORP. To date the
series has already had 87 different teams compete in 2008.
Two time CRA Street Stock Series
Driver Champion Joe Beaver looks to make it three for him and the
second Owners Championship for Terry Burton this Saturday. The veteran
racer comes
in to the events this weekend with a slim 13-point lead over Bret
Miles Jr., who had the series points lead two events ago. Carl Muffley
is currently in third place, he is 60 points out of first place. Top
series rookie contender Josh Burton, Beaver’s teammate, is in fourth
place only three points behind Muffley. Larry Matillo is in fifth
place, he is 12 points behind Burton. The top five come into
Saturday’s event only separated by 75 points.
Points will be awarded on Saturday
for the Street Stocks in qualifying and in their 50-lap Season
Championship feature event. Saturday will be the 12th event
of the season for the series in 2008. Carl Muffley is the only driver
to get more than one win so far this season. Muffley has three wins to
date, all at Winchester including the series last event on September
28th. Beaver won the series 100-lap event at Winchester.
Miles Jr. got a win at the series event at Baer Field Speedway. Beau
Mitchell, the series all time win leader, won the series 200-lap event
at Anderson Speedway. Josh Burton picked up his first ever series win
at Winchester Speedway in July. Larry Matillo followed Burton is
getting his first ever series victory at Angola Motor Speedway. Jason
Thompson and Katie Jackson kept the streak of first times winners
going with each of them getting a victory at Anderson Speedway. Rick
Erwin also got his first series victory at ORP. To date the series has
already had 92 different teams compete in 2008

400 Weekend Presented By Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade will be on
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 10th, 11th
and 12th with racing action from the Vore's Welding & Steel
CRA FWD Compacts on Friday night along with non-point special events
for the CRA Street Stocks and Howe CRA Sportsman Series. The CRA
Street Stocks, Howe CRA Sportsman Series and The Run For The Gun
Shootout for the O’Reilly USA Modified Series will be on Saturday
night. The famed Winchester 400 with NASCAR stars Kyle Busch and David
Stremme competing against the best late model drivers in the country
will take the green flag at 1pm on Sunday afternoon. For additional
