CRA Supported Rattler 250 Planning $3,000 to Win
Purse for Non-Qualifiers
Based on 50 Cars
Attempting to Make the Event, All Non-Qualifiers Will Compete for a
Record Purse
Salem, IN (November 10, 2008)-
Officials from Champion Racing Association (CRA) and John Dykes, owner
of South Alabama Speedway, announced today a substantial purse for the
Super Late Models that do not qualify for the 33rd
Annual "Rattler 250" at the Opp, Alabama track, March 6-8, 2009.
Already making it possible for one
Super Late Model driver to take home over $25,000 in cash and prizes
if 50 Super Late Models are part of racing that weekend, the track is
now posting, what is believed to be, the highest purse ever paid in a
non-qualifiers race, dubbed the "Little Rattler 100." The
$3000-to-win/$250 to Start, 100-lap race will be on the same day as
the Rattler 250, giving even more teams a chance to prosper and be
recognized at the track’s biggest event of the year.
With at least 50 cars attempting to
make the race, the 30 car field
will
be set with the fastest 24 in qualifying and the remaining six
positions coming from last chance race(s). There are no points
provisionals in the top 30 starting spots, which are open to all cars,
regardless of affiliation. All cars that do not make the 30-car
starting field of "The Rattler 250" will be eligible to race in "The
Little Rattler 100."
Drivers are encouraged to register
their intent to race in "The Rattler 250" on-line at
www.southalabamaspeedway.com as soon as possible. To ensure speedy
responses from the teams, Speedway officials announced that qualifying
order will be the reverse order that entries are received, thus, the
sooner teams enter, the later they will be in the qualifying order.
Officials have previously announced
that if 50 cars enter and attempt to make the race, track officials
will pay $20,000-to-Win, plus bonuses. Another $2500 in lap money has
been posted as well as a $1500 "Fast Qualifier and Win Bonus," a $1500
"Start from the Rear and Win Bonus," a $1500 ARP Bodies Certificate
(Package "A" Body) for the winner, $250 Cash and a $500 Certificate
from ARP Bodies for Fast Qualifier, $250 Halfway Leader Bonus, plus
other awards to still be announced.
The "Rattler 250" will use Derby
technical rules for the Super Late Models, which are very much in line
with CRA Super Series rules. Official announced last week that CRA
officials will be providing support in the areas of race control,
procedures, scoring and technical inspection. Ricky Brooks will serve
as Chief Technical Inspector for the race, with CRA Chief Technical
Inspector Eddie Chew to serve in a support role for Brooks. For more
